How to Create Video of a PowerPoint Slide Show:



PowerPoint 2010 includes some great new features that making it an even richer tool that its predecessors. For example, in PowerPoint 2010, you can create a high-fidelity video of any presentation. You can do this from right within PowerPoint, which means you no longer need to use external converter programs.


There are a few benefits to converting a slideshow into a video:



  • You can publish the video to a Web site.

  • The video is not editable.

  • The video is saved as a WMV video file format, which is readable by Windows computers.

  • The transitions, animations, sounds, and narration are preserved and embedded into the video.

  • You can control the file size of the video by selecting appropriate options.

  • The targeted audience does not need to have PowerPoint installed on their computers.


So let’s take a closer look at how you can create videos of PowerPoint slide shows in PowerPoint 2010. Believe it or not, it’s very simple!


To create a video of your slideshow in PowerPoint 2010:



  1. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and open the presentation that you want to turn into a video.

  2. Click File and point to Save & Send.

  3. From the menu that appears, click the Create a Video option.

  5. Once you select the Create a Video option, additional options appear for configuring a video. These options include:

    • Computer & HD Displays — Use this option if you plan to display the video on a screen using a projector or on a computer screen. Keep in mind that with this option, the video is also the largest file size and therefore, not suitable for sharing via email.

    • Use Recorded Timings & Narrations – If you have not added add any timings of your own, the default settings for PowerPoint 2010 are assigned to your presentation. Any recorded timings remain intact within the video.

    • Seconds to spend on each slide – By default, 5:00 seconds is spent on each slide. You may make a change here to increase or reduce this timing.



  6. Once you’ve made the desired changes to the video configuration options, select the Create Video button.

  7. The Save As dialog box Appears. Select the folder to which you want to save the file and type in a name for the file.

  8. Click the Save button.


PowerPoint saves the presentation as a video (WMV file).
